This is a tape with a bunch of distorted guitar rock songs on it. And ya’ wanna know somethin’!? It’s pretty dang good! Otro Mundo’s Jellied Rock is strong if for no other reason than an obvious attention paid to songwriting. It’s almost always refreshing for me to hear some well written songs, and every track offa’ this tape is listenable and crafted.
I got a Black Lips + noise musician as the lead singer type of vibe. The songs are basically straight ahead rock, punk, and perhaps even grunge tunes with a generous dose of modulation-based vocal squirts and woOOooWoOOoos.
Despite it’s good qualities I couldn’t help wondering while listening to it on repeat if the strength of the music was obscured by the numerous effects. Delay, chorus, flanger, etc. seem to be more readily used on vocals now more than ever but I am not sure if it’s always for the best. I like this tape a lot, but if the band were to experiment with being less ‘experimental’ I wonder if an incredible and raw band might be exposed!
Either way, thumbs up to these people and hopefully they’ll send me more of their tunes! SCOPE IT:
